Bits & Bytes @ITITimspec 06 Mar 2020

Welcome to the 2020 year and another busy one in front of us. Hard to gauge what’s going to happen, with a General election due I think in September. Building Statistic data clearly shows a strong building consents being issued. So lots of promise. 2020 started out slowly for us. Hot dry summer I guess kept a lot of folks from getting back into it. The weather has been great for some, but drought conditions in many parts of the country are serious.

Supply side..
As we all have heard, the NZ Forest industry is in turmoil as demand for logs has waned with China in particular stopping a lot of shipments, and as well the prices for logs has collapsed. This is at least in part due to the catastrophic devastation hurting the forests of Central Europe.
A number of long warm and dry summers in Europe has stressed forests and a beetle has attacked the Spruce forests in particular and it appears that as much as 80% of spruce forests in Germany as an example are dead and or dying. Click here read more..
